More Forum of Lies

Image
I recently joined 2 more Forum of Lies games. The first has a Wild West theme and is what's called vanilla, which is a type where everyone has the same abilities. So you can't use game mechanics like unique day and night actions to determine who is who. You have to use only social reading to try to figure out who the bad guys are. I didn't really think I'd like this as much since I think it is much cooler to have unique abilities, but I decided to give it a try for the experience. I know that I'm not so good at social reading, so I thought maybe a game based purely on social reading would be good to try. It's certainly been interesting, but I think I'll be sticking with rolemadness games, which is the term another player used for games where everyone has different roles with extra actions. The second game I joined is a standard FoL game, so one with different roles. This one isn't as far along, but I'm already enjoying the puzzle of figuring out wh...

Finished watching Picard season 1

Image
SPOILER ALERT! This contains major spoilers for Star Trek: Picard . So I had time yesterday to finish watching season 1 of Star Trek: Picard . I liked it overall. There were some definite leaps of logic in the story flow and how quickly other characters seemed to come to the rescue in various situations. And the whole thing with the advanced AI species seemed weird. But I still liked the exploration of AI issues and what the future might hold. And I suppose the general exploration of discovering self. I had read some reviews of Picard talking about how it had turned Star Trek into a show full of political or other agendas. But I didn't really see much of that or it just wasn't that obvious to me. I still felt like it had the overall agenda of learning to accept others no matter how strange or alien they seem. This has been the main agenda of Star Trek throughout as far as I can tell. I'm curious if Picard will continue to a season 2. They did set things up with a crew...

Forum of Lies game over

Image
So the Forum of Lies game is done. My town team, the "good guys", lost even though we really should have won from how things were going. However, because of various problems like people forgetting to submit their night actions, we ended up losing. Haha, everyone is just stunned by the game and wants to forget it ever happened. But I still had lots of fun with my first game. 😀 Here's what I posted to everyone after the game. Well, this has been such a rollercoaster ride! 🙂 While I agree with a number of the frustrations over mistakes, I must say this has been a fun adventure regardless. It really felt like a true murder mystery. I was never quite sure who I could trust. It’s been hard to stop thinking about this game the past couple weeks. 🙂 I am looking forward to my next game there. I have some very busy days towards the beginning of next week, so I need to wait until next Friday to see about signing up for an open game. Hopefully there will be a spot available in ...

Forum of Lies Night 4

Image
Well that's certainly interesting. Gorta turned out to be telling the truth. He was executed today and flipped as a good guy. Are the wolves winning now? I hope not. Man, in some ways I feel sorry for Gorta. I really am glad that he didn't tell a lie about IRL circumstances for an advantage in the game. However, he has also seriously jeopardized our chances of winning. He is really a liability as a teammate. I suppose this aphorism applies. Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. — Hanlon's Razor His words and actions make him so easy to read as bad. But I guess that's just him being a stupid player. Unless he's such a masterful gamer that he's setting all this up for a game in the future where he really is the bad guy and can then point to all previous games to explain his seemingly bad behavior. Now that would be something that deserves respect.

Forum of Lies Day 4

Image
It is day 4 in the Forum of Lies game and my blood was boiling this morning. Haha! 😀 I had a feeling that Gorta guy would find an excuse for not submitting a night action since that would have resulted in revealing him as a bad guy and me as a good guy. In some ways, I'm hoping he's not lying and that he could be a good guy as well. Because if he is truly lying about a real world situation to make an excuse for in-game in-action that clearly benefits him, then I think he should be punished somehow. We'll see how it goes. Man, my sarcasm is going to get me in trouble in this game. I have to be more careful. I made a sarcastic statement at the beginning of the day when the night results came out. I was pointing out that I was still alive and therefore Gorta was lying. But then Gorta and another player, who I think might also be bad, tried to continually question me on that statement to color it as something a bad guy would say. Oh man, this kind of stuff is why I hate get...

Forum of Lies Day 3

Image
Okay, not sure if I should post this, but I will. I told myself this blog should be a way for me to deal with my feelings and thoughts. So the Forum of Lies game has continued to day 3. I think things will conclude soon. It’s been fun yet also frustrating. I think I’ll be joining the next game, but I’m still trying to decide. And the big part of why I’m even hesitating on playing another game has to do with a particular player named Gorta. Oh man, he’s such a jerk towards me! I’m trying to hold back from letting his words bother me more, but it’s been tough. I’m almost hoping that when the game concludes, I find out that he was just roleplaying the whole time. I’ve seen players get to the point of heated discussions during the course of the game, but I get the impression that these people have been playing with each other awhile and that they don’t hold grudges across games. But I do wonder if I’m cut out for this time of gameplay. Part of me thinks I should expose myself to thi...

Forum of Lies

I've heard about social deduction games for awhile now. Those are the games where players get random roles and people have to try figuring out who everyone is. You either try to eliminate everyone else or there's a good team and evil team that compete to eliminate the other team. Generally the good team isn't sure who is good and who is evil, while the evil team knows each other. I've played Coup with friends and that's really fun. I know that Werewolf and Town of Salem are fairly popular. For IdleRPG , there's a minigame for Werewolf that's kind of fun, though mostly feels random. I recently downloaded and played a mobile version of Town of Salem . That was kind of fun, but I felt like a lot of the players weren't really serious. While I was researching Town of Salem , I found out about a PC game called Throne of Lies . It looked like a better version of Town of Salem or Werewolf.  Plus, as a PC game, I thought perhaps it would be better to type ...
